2018 Season Fast Approaching
The 2018 season will begin on 6 April for the J1/J2 competition and 7 April for all other teams. The draw is still a couple of weeks away as the Association is waiting for all clubs to confirm team numbers.
Club training is at Sylvania on Tuesday afternoons from 4.30pm – 5.30pm. We would like all juniors to attend and any seniors that are available at that time are welcome. The Men’s team will train on Monday nights at Sylvania from 7.15pm – 8.15pm. Any senior women wanting a run at that time are also welcome – just let Glenn Lim know you will be there (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Anyone looking to umpire in the 2018 season should contact our umpires convenor Amy Lynch asap at email@example.com If you indicated on your registration form that you wanted to umpire, then no need to contact Amy again.
The 2017 AGM will be held at Tradies at Gymea at 7.30pm on Thursday 30 November 2017.
We would love to see all our members (senior players, parents of junior players, life members) join us at the AGM. The Committee for 2018 will be elected at the AGM but you do not have to take on a position when you attend the AGM. Come along, support your club and find out how it all works.
Looking forward to seeing you all there.
2017 Winter Season Results
The 2017 winter season has concluded with some exciting results. Our J1 Queens and U11 Tornados were premiers. The J2 Allsorts were minor premiers and runners up. The J2 Twisters and U13 Titans both came in third and the U11 Terminators finished 5th. Amazing junior results. The Under 9 Terrors and Under 7 Tiny Teddies all showed good development over the season in their non-competitive hockey.
In our senior ranks the Premier League ladies had a hard season in 2017. Numbers were very tight and we transitioned a couple of our J1 Queens into the Premier League side this year. Hopefully they will be back more experienced and stronger in 2018. The Tarts qualified for the first division finals in the Moorebank competition, finishing third and the Creme Puffs also finished third in Division 2 of the Moorebank competition.
Onwards and upwards for Tartans Hockey Club in winter 2018 and now to summer indoor.

Tartans Hockey Club AGM
Our 2016 AGM was held last December with thanks to our sponsors at Tradies Caringbah. The Tartans board are looking forward to a great 2017 season.
2016 Season Results
Another winter season has concluded. Our first grade premier league ladies finished a very creditable 5th. The Creme Puffs defeated the Tarts in the Division 2 grand final on 10 September.
At junior level first grade were minor premiers and premiers defeating Bosco 4 – 3 in a very tense penalty shoot out, with the winning goal coming on the 18th shot. The game had been tied at 1 – 1 at full time and after 14 minutes golden goal extra time. Second grade were also minor premiers and also finished their grand final in a penalty shoot out going down 4 – 3 to Sharks. Their game result was also 1 – 1 after golden goal extra time. The under 13s were minor premiers and joint premiers, with the grand final finishing at 0 – 0 after golden goal extra time. Our Under 11s came in third in the minor premiership and finished the season in the same place – a very strong result for such a young team. Our Under 9s and Under 7s had full season of fun and development.
Pat Wade Award Nominations
The club is seeking nominations from members for the 2016 Pat Wade Awards. See the Club Honours page for more details. Nominations requested by 20 August 2016.
The club is again participating in the Toyota Raffle and we ask all our junior families to sell and return their raffle tickets. No-one received many tickets to sell, so please do your best. $5 could win you a car. All money raised goes to the club for purchasing new equipment.
During the holidays a combined J1 Queens and J2 Allsorts team took on a touring school girls team from England. The team from AKS Lytham school were on an Australian tour in their summer holidays to play some hockey. On a beautiful day at Moorebank our girls gave the English girls a taste of Australian hockey – Tartans style. We played some great hockey, with most girls playing out of position, but more importantly showed great sportsmanship when playing against a weaker opponent. Special mention to Emma R as our captain for the day. She spoke confidently to the two teams after the game, graciously to our opponents in the after game presentation and then encouraged our team to talk to the English players after the game. We hope we gave the visitors a great experience of hockey in Sydney’s South and at the Tartans club in particular. Congratulations to Keziah on taking out the player of the match award. The team for the day was Hannah, Paris, Courtney, Jordie, Charlotte, Alexis, Mack, Grace, Sarah, Keziah, Emma R, Beth, Morgan and Tamsin and Amy ably represented us as an umpire.
Last weekend we had 4 of our J1 Queens represent Sydney South at the Under 18 State Championships. Emma was in the 18.1 team which finished 3rd in Division 2. Tamsin, Hannah and Sarah were in the U18.2 team which finished 7 in Division 3.
UNDER 9 AGE GROUP
We still have space in our under 9 age group. Games for this age group are at 9.15am or 10.15am each Saturday at Jenola Hockey Fields, Caringbah. We are looking for players born in 2007 and 2009 who would like to come and play modified hockey.
Come along and give it a go!
FIRST GRADE JUNIOR TRIALS
First grade junior girls trials are on Sunday 21 February from 5pm – 6.30pm at Sylvania Hockey Park.
All girls in the age group are encouraged to come along and have a run, even if you don’t want to be considered for the first grade team.
2016 TEAMS FILLING
Our 2016 teams are filling but we still have space in the Under 7 (born between 2009 and July 2011) and Under 9 (born 2007 and 2008) age groups. Both these age groups provide mixed “competition”. They are non-competitive modified hockey and are grades used to develop an understanding of hockey and being part of a team and a club. Games are all played on Saturday mornings at Jenola Hockey Fields, Caringbah
We also have some space in the girls high school competition. This competition is aimed at girls born in or after 2002 who are still at school. Training for this age group is on Monday afternoon/evening at Sylvania Hockey Park on the synthetic field. Games are played either on Sunday mornings (early) at Sylvania Hockey Park or on Friday nights at Ernie Smith Recreation Reserve, Moorebank.
There is more information on the registration page, or contact the registrar at email@example.com.

The club had some success in the indoor hockey competitions run recently at Port Hacking High School.
We had four teams in the junior competition and three teams in the senior competition.
In the junior competition, Division 2 was won by our team, “The Terrifics” and our team “Tartans” were runners up in Division 1.
In the senior competition “Whinos” and “Creme Puffs” had to play each other in a semi-final, with “Whinos” being stronger on the night. They then finished runners up in the competition.
